We are pleased to announce that MMUN has been recognized as an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (EcoSoc).

As stated by resolution 1996/31 on the “Consultative relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations,”

“… Consultative arrangements are to be made, on the one hand, for the purpose of enabling the Council or one of its bodies to secure expert information or advice from organizations having special competence in the subjects for which consultative arrangements are made, and, on the other hand, to enable international, regional, sub-regional and national organizations that represent important elements of public opinion to express their views.”

This will make it easier for the voices of the students to be heard because MMUN will be able to file position papers and their Resolutions directly with the appropriate committees and Missions. In addition, MMUN will now be able to be more active directly in committee meetings as an Observer or Invited Participant.

Following this year’s High Level Meeting of the General Assembly we will be meeting with UN agencies and Mission leadership to determine how we can best support one another’s efforts to achieve the SDGs and provide opportunities for MMUN conference Delegates.
