MMUN is pleased to welcome Richard Ungerer, former Executive Director of American Montessori Society (AMS) to  the MMUN Board of Advisors.

We would like to introduce Mr. Ungerer with his own words:

“Children have the capacity to create change, but we need to provide microcosms that strengthen their self-awareness and build their competencies so they can flourish in a global community. We want children to feel confident and empowered to change the world. This work goes beyond what Montessori educators have advocated as “education for peace”

Prior to joining AMS in 2005, Mr. Ungerer led a number of not-for-profit organizations committed to enhancing education policy, leadership, and service-learning programs for children and youth.

He served as president of the National Institute for Work and Learning, president of the “I Have A Dream Foundation,” executive director of the National Society for Internships and Experiential Education, and special assistant in the U.S. Office of Education.

Mr. Ungerer has a BA from Colgate University with a major in Political Science, graduating Cum Laude and as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He also holds a Master of Social Planning from the Boston College School of Social Work and a Master of Theology from the Boston University School of Theology with a concentration in Social Ethics.

Thanks to his contributions and guidance which have already begun MMUN is step closer toward achieving our vision of educating students to create a world of peace.
